It is an old wisdom that tourism is like fire: it can cook your meal but it can also burn your house down. In every effort to develop tourism, the positive as well as the negative consequences should be addressed. Retour develops strategies and actions to deal with both the opportunies and the threats of tourism. Based on the Tourism Planning Method Retour offers the following services.
Retour acts as a consultant in the field of tourism and sustainable development, advising governments, NGOs and private enterprises on strategies, policies and projects concerning tourism.
Retour facilitates implementation of policies and projects by carrying out feasibility studies and by creating pilot projects. Retour also offers the services of its experienced projectmanagers.
Retour organises workshops bringing together all actors involved in tourism development: touroperators, governments, NGOs, and local communities and offers them training in sustainable tourism on all levels.
Retour has developed a set of criteria for sustainable tourism development, which offer a framework for the evaluation of tourism projects and can be used as a monitoring instrument.
Retour has expertise in the area of tourism, development, gender issues, ecology, infrastructure, education, institutional development, small enterprises and marketing. Through its (inter-) national contacts Retour can mobilize knowledge and experience of many experts and organisations all over the world.
Retour is a not-for-profit organisation, working on a consultancy basis with flexible rates on an hourly, daily or monthly basis. Profits are reinvested in campaigns and development projects to support local people in dealing with the consequences of tourism.
